DEVELOPMENT OF DECISION-MAKING SUPPORT SOFTWARE IN THE PROBLEM OF CHOOSING AN OPTIMAL BLAST FURNACE SLAG MODE

The use of modern computer technology allows us to create more comfortable environment for fast decision-making for industrial workers in various productionsituations.

At the department of physical and chemical problems of metallurgical processes at Z. I. Nekrasov Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences the system of control and management of a blast furnace slag mode called «Slag» [1] was developed under the guidance of professor D. M. Togobytska and it is now working in the environment of automatic control systems of blast furnaces of the industry.

Within the frameworks of the Bachelor’s thesis I was given a task to develop two computer programs for the automatic control system «Slag»: «Diagnostic» and «Optimization».

The objective of the program «Diagnostic» is to perform calculations of physical and chemical properties of cast iron, slag and blast furnace gas; analyze the set of calculated parameters and form the assessment of the current situation at the blast furnace and provide recommendations regarding necessary interventions basing on this analysis.

The program is written in C# language. This program is an important supplement for the working system «Slag». It allows an operator of a blast furnace to get visual information concerning smelting process and its results in a convenient form. The most important information is displayed in graphs, which considerably facilitates its comprehension. The assessment of the current situation and interventions which are offered by the program help an operator of a blast furnace make further decisions in the process control.

The program «Optimization» is the appropriate software module implementing a systematic approach to the selection of the optimal composition of blast furnace charge [2; 3]. This program helps to find such values of input parameters of the process of cast iron smelting which would lead to the smelting of cast iron of the required quality. The required quality of the smelting result is achieved in the case when key parameters of obtained slag lie within the permissible limits. The input parameters in the process of cast iron smelting are the following: composition and quantity of materials entering the blast furnace, parameters of the smelting technology.

The development of the described software products for the automatic control system «Slag» will allow us to facilitate the task of cast iron smelting process control, optimize production costs and thereby improve the results of this process and prevent the occurrence of accidents in manufacturing.
