THE ANALYSES OF THE IMPACT OF ADDING CORAL CALCIUM «CORAL MINE» ON WATER QUALITY
The topic of my research work is «The analyses of the impact of adding coral calcium Coral Mine on water quality».
Among all compounds existing on the Earth, the water, due to the originality of its physical and chemical properties, occupies a unique position in nature and plays a significant role in human life. Human life and health depend directly on the quality of drinking water. The water should have a number of specific properties so that all the biochemical processes function in human organism in optimal mode.
Investigation of the supply of drinking water, as well as of its quality, proves the necessity of improvement of water treating technologies. Thus, the object of the research became the improvements of water quality.
There exist different ways to improve water quality, e. g. using the filters. Depending on the intended effect, filters can be used for various purposes: cleaning from chlorine and chlor-organic compounds, elimination of water hardness, additional enrichment by fluorine, removal of iron.
Another way of water purification is the adding of substances capable of improving its chemical composition: coagulants, flocculants, strong oxidizers and sorbents. Among the compounds that are proposed to be used for this purpose nowadays is a product of coral club – coral calcium Coral Mine , which is the subject of our research.
According to the producer’s information, after adding the corals into the water, the latter becomes clear, structured, weakly alkaline and mineralized.
The aim of this research became the study of influence of coral calcium Coral Mine on water quality. The task of the research was to investigate certain chemical characteristics of water samples before and after the addition of Coral Mine and to consider reasonability of its usage for the improvement of water quality.
In this work the water samples from different sources were used:
Water sample № 1 –well water (village of Novooleksandrivka, Dnipropetrovsk region);
Water sample № 2 – spring water (village of Dorohe, Dnipropetrovsk region);
Water sample № 3 – faucet water;
Water sample № 4 – filtered water (filter «Barrier» № 4, classic).
For the accomplishments of analyses we used a series of methods: organoleptic, colorimetric, titrimetric, photometric, spectrophotometric, potentiometric.
It was proved that the addition of coral calcium Coral Mine slightly increases acid values of water, but not to 8,5–9,0, as it was claimed by the producer. The concentration of calcium, magnesium and argentum ions also changes.
Thus, the attempt to identify the effect of the addition of coral calcium Coral Mine on the structure of water proved to be a failure. In conclusion to the conducted experiments, we can state that it is inappropriate to recommend coral calcium Coral Mine as an additive for the improvement of water quality.
As we see, the search of alternative methods of improving water quality is very actual in the modern world and it needs a special attention. In fact, our health depends on the quality of water which we drink.
